H. C. R. 45
(By Delegates Love, Varner, Osborne, Fantasia, Heck, Nichols,
Stalnaker and Given)
(Originating in the Committee on Government Organization)
Requesting the Joint Committee on Government and Finance to make a
study of the funeral service industry in West Virginia.
Whereas, Efficient, effective, reliable and proper funeral
service is an important factor in the lives of each and every
citizen of the state; and
Whereas, Each year several bills are introduced in the
Legislature regarding the funeral service industry; and
Whereas, A thorough review of the funeral service industry in
West Virginia would aid legislators in making the decisions they
are called upon to make regarding this vital service to the
citizenry; and
Whereas, A proper study of the funeral service industry would
necessarily include input from the West Virginia Board of Embalmers
and Funeral Directors, funeral service practitioners, cremators,
embalmers, small and large funeral establishments and crematories,
others involved in the disposition of human remains; and those
affected by the industry; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Joint Committee on Government and Finance is hereby
requested to review, examine, and study the funeral serviceindustry in West Virginia and to make recommendations to the 1997
Legislature regarding its findings, conclusions and recommendations
together with drafts of any proposed legislation necessary to
effectuate said recommendations; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the expenses necessary to conduct this
study be paid from legislative appropriations to the Joint
Committee on Government and Finance.
